The whole idea for this page came from my repeated failed attempts at getting the cards listed below into the Annual Beckett magazine as "Error Cards".  The Beckett Crew has continually pushed my requests aside or flat out ignored my e-mails / letters into this matter. 

Even for documentation purposes, I would think that Beckett would be interested in the error cards because it would tell the collector that the information on the card is incorrect. My only guess is that the early 90's totally wore the research team out at Beckett. I mean, between Pro Set and Pacific there were so many errors and variation cards that it must've drove them mad.  The prices of the Error or, in some cases, the correction cards were very high.  The prices have since come down and in any case indicates that the collector has lost interest. 

My interest is in the documentation. The cards listed below are not like some of the cards you might find on an auction site, (i.e., mis-cuts, or missing foil coating). These errors are true errors.  If you have any of the cards below you might want to check on some of them to see if you have a corrected version. Some of the Errors I've discovered are shown below. I've also listed a few cards that could be undiscovered variations which aren't exactly errors, but are still missing from the Annual Beckett price guide.

Errors

1) Action Packed:

    A) 1994 Action Packed Base Card:

        #1 Michael Haynes:  His info on the back is Jerry Rice's. Michael Haynes went to Northern Arizona, not Mississippi Valley St. (See 1A above)

2) Bowman:

    B) 1992 Bowman Base Card:

        #47 Bill Brooks: The back of the card says "..during his 13 stats.....". Should be "..during his 14

        starts..."

    C) 1994  Bowman Base Card:

        #302 Steve Jackson: The picture on the front shows Steve Tovar, a Cincinnati LB, Steve Jackson is a much smaller CB. (See 2C above)

3) Fleer:

    A) 1996 Fleer Rookie Sensations Insert Card:

        #2 Tim Biakabatuka:  The picture on the front is of Mushin Muhammad not Timmy.

4) Donruss:

    A) 1997 Donruss Preferred Base Card:

        #66 Natrone Means: The small picture on the back looks to be James Stewart another running back in Jacksonville.  James used to wear the bandage on his nose.

    B) 1999 Donruss Base Card:

        #20 Rae Carruth: The picture on the front does not appear to be Rae, My guess is it's Michael Bates.

5) Leaf:

    A) 1997 Leaf Base Card:

        #46 Rickey Dudley: The picture on the front is not Mr. Dudley. It's Mr. Glover, Andrew Glover. Glover wore #87. (See 5A-RD above).

        #124 Charlie Garner: The picture on the back is not Charlie. The jersey looks like #36, which would be Michael Zordich. (See 5A-CG above).

        #135 Ken Norton: Ken's full name is Ken Norton Jr., not Ken Norton. Ken Norton is a famous boxer.

        #179 Eddie Kennison: Sorry. That's not Eddie on the back. It's Marquis Walker, a CB from S.E. Missouri, can't you tell? (This card is not in the 1997 Leaf Set. I am investigating).

6) Pacific:

    A) 1991 Pacific Base Card:

        #633 Aeneas Williams RC: The information on the back is not correct. It has Aeneas listed as 6'4" and 285 lbs. Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have a problem picking out Aeneas if he was standing next to Reggie White, (The late Reggie White during his playing days was 6'5" - 295). 

7) Pinnacle:

    A) 1996 Pinnacle Base Card:

        #38 Carl Pickens: The picture on the back is not Carl Pickens. I don't know who it is.

8) Playoff:

    A) 1995 Playoff Prime Base Card:

        #167 Leonard Russell: The stats on the back are QB stats, not RB stats. I kinda think this is wrong.

    B) 1997 Playoff Zone Base Cards:

        #100 Steve McNair: On the back Steve's alma mater is spelled, Alcon State. It should be Alcorn            State.  (See 8B-SM above)

        #134 Will Blackwell: On the back, right above Will's College statistics his college is listed as Virginia. It should be San Diego State. (See 8B-WB above)

        #135 Jim Druckenmiller.  On the back, right above Jim's College statistics his college is listed as Virginia. It should be Virginia Tech. (See 8B-JD above)

        #141 Ike Hilliard. There is whole lot of something goin' on here.  First, Ike's last name is spelt wrong

        on the back. It's Hilliard not Hillard. Second, his college stats are totally wrong. No one would ever get drafted with the numbers this card says he put up. (See 8B-IH above)

        #142 Troy Davis. Not a major error here, but on the back it says, "Rookies", when it should say "Rookie". (See 8B-TD above)

9) Proline:

    A) 1992 Proline Profiles: "Pat Swilling" #7 / 9. as stated on the Proline page, Pat refused to sign this card because the picture on the back was not of him. It's of teammate Rickey Jackson who wore #57 during the season, (See his towel). My source has told me that Proline had inserted a corrected version into late packs, but Beckett does not list an error or a corrected version. (See 9A above).

    B) 1995 Proline: "Keenan McCardell" Autographs #79C. The 2006 Beckett Annual Price Guide calls out an "A version" #'d to /1235 and a "B version" #'d to /2403 AP, but makes no reference of a "C version" #'d to /754AP. (See 9B above).

    C) 1997 Proline: "Peter Boulware" Autograph #6. The 2006 Beckett Annual Price Guide indicates that the Boulware auto is #'d to /430, but there is a version #'d to to /400 out there. (See 9C above). 

10) Score:

    A) 1997 Score Base Card:

        #56 Bruce Smith.  I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. That's not Bruce on the front.

        #120 John Randle. I would put money down that it's Fernando Bryant #95 pictured on the front, not John. (See 10A-JR above).

        #213 Brian Blades. Here again, I don't think this is Blades. The jersey number is 36 not 89. And that would make the player shown Lamar Smith. (See 10A-BB above).

        #268 Tony Martin. This seems to be a ongoing problem with this set. That's not Tony Martin on the front, my guess is it's Darrien Gordon. (See 10A-TM above).

        #284 Chris Canty. Whoever Score hired to put the names with the players should be fired. Canty is not the player you see on the front. Canty went to Kansas St. which has purple jerseys not orange.

    B) 1997 Score "New Breed" Insert Card:

        #11 Keyshawn Johnson. Keyshawn is not as big as the player shown on the front. The player on the front is #98 Bobby Hamilton. The same Bobby Hamilton who won 2 Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. (See 10B above)

11) Skybox Premium:

    A) 1998 Skybox Autographics Insert:

        #4 John Avery: Unless he legally changed his name, Jon is incorrect, (See 11A above).

12) SP:

    A) 1996 SP Base Cards:

        #38 Reggie White: Reggie's personal bio info on the back is incorrect. Reggie didn't go to North Carolina A&T. (See 12A above).

        #81 Andre Reed:  It looks to me to be another receiver on the front. It's definitely not Andre. My guess is it's Quinn Early.

13) Topps Finest:

    A) 1998 Topps Finest Base Cards:

        #17 Randal Hill.  Randal's Career TD total indicates he scored 72 TDs. No way. Maybe if you included his College and High School career numbers. No, try 14. (See 13A-RH above)

        #24 Tony Banks.  Tony went to Michigan State, not Michigan. (See 13A-TB above).

14) Upper Deck:

    A) 1997 Upper Deck Base Card:

        #229 Ben Coats. Ben's Receiving yardage shows "000". I don't know about you, but that doesn't look right.

15) Upper Deck Black Diamond:

    A) 1998 Black Diamond Base Card:

        #10 Andre Reed.  It looks to me to be another receiver on the back. It's definitely not Andre.

16) Upper Deck MVP:

    A) 1999 Upper Deck MVP Base Card:

        #26 Andre Reed.  Do people have a hard time recognizing Andre Reed? It looks to me to be another receiver on the front. It's definitely not Andre.

    B) 2000 Upper Deck MVP Base Card:

        #5 Frank Sanders. Frank Sanders rookie year was in 1995. Therefore, the total years at the bottom are wrong.
