The Leaf series is one of my favorites.  I rank it right up there with Upper Deck, Donruss, Ultra and Skybox Premium sets.  I really enjoyed both of the 1996 and the 1997 Base Sets, (See the 1996 Leaf "Simeon Rice #175 and the 1997 Leaf Jerry Rice #8 below).  The base card design for both years were very attractive.  Its apparent that Leaf wanted to make more of its set then just window dressing for chase cards. 

The insert sets themselves were very unique, innovative, ( See the 1996 Leaf Grass Roots "Marshall Faulk"  #9 below) and very well received by the hobby.  The 1996 Leaf Grass Roots Insert cards with the first to add a "Felt" type feel to the card face. (Note: I could be wrong here, Playoff added felt Pennants this same year). Regardless of who came first, the felt look and feel was very innovative and added a new chapter in the history of trading cards.
