Is there a card company out there that sells the hobby world more weird ideas for cards than Pacific? I mean, Card-Supials? Christmas Ornaments?  What's even worse is I like them.  Price aside, I would take a set of Pacific Card-Supials over a set of Collector's Edge Crystal Cuts any day.  Regardless of how weird their next insert is the base sets are always nice designs with brilliant color.  Pacific was the hobby's first UV-coated football card.  When I first opened packs, (Yes, I opened packs back then), of the 1991 series, (See the 1991 #284 Joey Browner), I thought to myself, "These are really nice cards. This is next '89 Score."  Well, I was way off base on that one, but they were still sharp looking cards and that doesn't change with Book Value.

The 1997 Pacific Invincible "Smash Mouth X-Tra" Insert set I have is quite impressive, (See the 1997 Pacific Invincible "Peter Boulware" Smashmouth X-Tra #58 below), the photography was great and the layout on both the front and the back was done quite well.  The creators at Pacific included a nice well rounded group of Rookies and Stars to complement this set.  Well done. It seems the collectors rather enjoy this brand too.

I think Pacific feel into trap a lot of card manufacturers did in the mid to late 90's and that way spreading themselves way too thin.  It is as if card manufacturer's need a card set to hit every little niche in the hobby; one for 13-14 year olds, one for 15-17 year olds, on for 18-20 year olds, so on and so on.  This can stretch the annual budget paper thin and if you have more than one or two brands that crash badly it can severely hurt your bottom line. And when the cost of the NFL Player's licensing fees continue to go up this can only have one ending. I believe this is what happen to Pacific. Way too many sets. Spread way too thin.
