Warning!!!: I've been on ebay for quite some time. And in this time, I've never run across a seller who was so deceitful. The seller's name is Brian Carnathan and he now goes by the ebay ID of sportscardsfast, (you can click here to see his feedback). He didn't always go by this ID. He used to go by the ID of MC Business Solutionz, then he changed it to Cardsandcollectibles. So, in reality he's had 3 ebay IDs under 2 address'. Both of which are in Western Pennsylvania. The fact is, he changes his ID once his negative feedback rating starts to take a hit. The reason he is allowed to stay around so long is he moves so much volume. Even when he has 3 or 4 people leave him negative feedback he has about 2,000 more that week that left him positive feedback. He hovers around 99.4% positive feedback, but I've seen it as low as 96%.
Anyway, my problems with him start back in 2002, when I won an auction from him for about $5 or so. After waiting a couple weeks, I e-mailed Brian about my card. Brian finally wrote back after a couple times of e-mailing him and he apologized and said that the post office must have lost it. No problem, it happens. Card #2 was won a couple months later. Again, it never arrived. And this time he claimed I never paid for it. One problem, I had the check from my bank that proved that it was cashed. I tried to send him a .jpg image of the cashed check, but he refused to acknowledge it. At this point, I was banned from bidding on any items of his.
Fast forward now to 2007. I see a card on ebay I want, bid on it, win and low and behold, the name on my "Congratulations" e-mail from ebay is none other than MC Business Solutionz, (Brian's company is still registered as MC Business Solutionz in Pennsylvania even though his ebay ID is sportscardsfast). Brian forgot to ban me this time around when he changed his ID. So, I think about my options and decide to put insurance on the item so he can't use the ol' "The Post Office lost it" excuse. And now that he uses paypal, (he didn't back in 2002), I don't have to write a check. Two weeks later, I receive the item, but guess what? No insurance was applied to the package. I file a complaint with paypal, but paypal claims that this scenario is outside of what they cover. The item did arrive, so the complaint is filed as closed. Brian writes me several times, saying he wants to help, but never ever follows up on those claims. I finally leave him a negative feedback and he retaliates with one as well.
I follow up this with calls to both ebay and paypal. Paypal even went so far as to say that buyers do not have to put insurance on their items when they pay through paypal. Paypal claims that if an item is lost that was paid for via paypal, it is the sellers responsibility to prove he sent the item. That seems a little for-fetched for me. But it's what they told me. So, what I should have done, is told paypal I never received the item from sportscardsfast. That way, Mr. Brian Carnathan would have had to prove he sent it. I'll know next time. Anyway, if your dealing with a seller named sportscardsfast, always, always put insurance on it. He won't add it, but at least he'll be responsible when it doesn't arrive.
