Wow, could you write a better way to enter into the hobby world than the way Score did in 1989?  And they did it in a year in which there was such an excellent crop of rookies.  Since than the Score brand has given us a really good product.  Their cards have had excellent designs on a worthy card stock.

The card stock that Score used for its cards in 1989 and in 1990 sets were perhaps my favorite.  It felt like cardboard, but it was a very durable, strong and unique stock.  I liked the way they felt and the cards just didn't bend like some of the newer cards do. Like the 1997 Pinnacle Certified cards, for example.

At this point I want to point out a very interesting fact about Score.  When I was a very young collector at about age 10 or 11 I wondered why their wasn't any College Football cards.  Well, in 1990, (Some ten years later),  Score actually gave us our first, (As far as I know), look at players in their college uniforms in a Pro Card set, (See the 1990 Score "Chris Singleton" RC #290 below).  Thanks Score for being the first to give us this.

In 1998 Score set took a page out of the Upper Deck book of photography and did a real nice job with some of their Rookie Cards, (See the 1998 Score "Keith Brooking" #239 below).

The Select brand has always been a real attractive production.  The 1993 Select series was a great first set to start a  new product line, (See the 1993 Select "Hardy Nickerson" #157 below).  Beckett Magazine recently called it still one of the best buys for complete sets.  I still wonder why it ended.  Did interest drop off from the Terrell Davis set of '95, (See the 1995 Select Certified "Terance Mathis" #34 below), to '96?  Regardless, this was one of your better short lived brands.
